Yesterday, in Rio de Janeiro, a seventeen year-old was drugged and raped by 30 men. Yes, that number is right. Thirty men raped a girl. They also filmed her while she was unconscious, hurt and bleeding, and posted it to twitter. They took selfies next to her inert body, posted them, laughed and made crude jokes about it. 

If you try to find any reports on it, you’ll find ONE website reported it but treats the case as an ‘alleged’ rape. There are videos and pictures. Alleged rape.

I am yet to see ANY of the men I have on Facebook say something about it. So far, the only ones showing any kind of response to it are women. We are all disgusted, sad, angry, and feeling utterly powerless because we know that in our country, rape culture is still widely accepted and propagated. We feel defeated, but we will not stop fighting. We can’t.

Fans have now taken their extreme comments about Sebastian Stan and are putting them on his instagram. I knew this day would come but I’m still disgusted to see it.

All y’all who are participating in this need to call the man ‘Romanian garbage’ especially need to rethink how you express yourself that doesn’t read as racist, prejudice, or discriminatory. And I say racist because I don’t know how the race dynamics work in European but if I saw someone call Idris Elba ‘Ghanaian garbage’, I would throw hands. It still reads as you’re attacking his ethnic background and that shit ain’t cool.

Also need to reconsider the whole ‘gay rent boy’ or ‘dirty prostitute’. Sex workers deserve more than that and sure one could argue because y’all aren’t intentionally being insulting—in a way you’re trying to praise him—it’s still expressed very badly and there’s better ways to do it. This includes not even participating in making these comments on his social media. There’s sex workers on tumblr.

Ultimately keep Sebastian Stan out of your fantasies. He’s a real person with real feelings who has no idea about the inside jokes the fandoms has and he shouldn’t be forced into it. Keep that shit on your personal blogs and even on your personal blogs, realize others can see that shit who are hurt by the use of your words.

The whole “I hate your face”, “wow can you stop”, “horrible” and comments like that aren’t demeaning to marginalized, misrepresented groups but those comments as well like I said need to stay clear of Sebastian. Tone is difficult to read through text and again he doesn’t know online fandom inside jokes.

Just leave the man alone and have some respect for sex workers.

However, there’s something that’s becoming more and more prominent both on my dash and in Sebastian’s tag, and it’s really making me feel sick.

The whole “trash junkie dumpster slut” stuff has really gotten disgusting guys. Maybe it was funny in the tags on one photo. Maybe if you like that aesthetic you could write a clearly marked AU fanfic.

But this is being thrown around at him on instagram, and this is all over his tag here on tumblr, and he has no idea you have any sort of affection in that insult, nor would his friends or family, or even a casual observer.

Sebastian is a serious actor, and he’s finally gotten a role that has earned him a lot of attention and a lot of fans, and he’s obviously been really excited about the whole thing. But if this is what he’s seeing come at him now, I wouldn’t blame him if he pulled away from us as a whole. Have you thought maybe this has something to do with his absence on instagram this week?

So ask yourself, would you say any of these things to his face? Would you say these things about a woman, about Scarlett?  If you feel uneasy with either of these options, you probably shouldn’t be throwing these things around to Sebastian online, nor tagged all over tumblr. Because not only are you possibly upsetting him personally, you are potentially affecting his reputation.

I happen to want to see him go on to land many, many more diverse roles and have a long and successful career. What happens when a casting director googles him and finds people calling him all these names?

So, please, please treat Sebastian with respect. Like I said, if you want to write clearly marked AU fanfiction, I will accept it here. But before you decide to next lovingly spew hurtful names at him, think of how he might react if he read your words.
